Hot on the heels of the fantastic looking BMW Zagato Coupe concept, BMW releases the Zagato Roadster Concept; in collaboration with Italian coachbuilder Zagato.
Like the Zagato Coupe, the Roadster is based on the BMW Z4 and was produced after the positive reception the coupe received. The roadster is virtually identical to the coupe, minus the roof; keen eyed readers will notice the crease on the side of the rear bumper has been moved up a bit on the roadster.
I’m just as big of a fan of the roadster as I was of the coupe. I really like the muscular and bulldog-like stance of these cars, and can only imagine how much fun these cars would be to drive, especially with M-performance engines and suspensions. These cars look like a modern day take on the famous Shelby Cobra roadsters. If I had a choice to pick either the coupe or the roadster, I’d be very torn between the two, and probably spend many sleepless nights trying to make the “right” decision.
Unlike the Z4, the BMW Zagato Roadster has a folding cloth roof with a pair of those “hump” looking things behind the driver and passenger seats that cover the folded roof. Since this is a concept, maybe BMW will make it a hard-top convertible if it ever sees production, which BMW hasn’t said anything about. Having said that, judging by the positive response these cars have received, I wouldn’t be surprised to see these in a BMW dealership in the near future.
