Breitling has been producing a line of special edition watches for the famous British (German owned) luxury automaker, Bentley, called “Breitling for Bentley”. These watches are usually on the expensive side and feature exotic materials. The watch I’m writing about today is called the limited edition “Breitling for Bentley Mulliner Tourbillon”, it has been around for a while but I just noticed it today and thought I’d bring this masterpiece to our viewers’ attention.
The watch is named after a specialized division of Bentley called Mulliner that employs around a hundred employees who work on custom leather, wood, and metal for interiors of Bentley cars, according to customer specifications. The Breitling Mulliner Tourbillon watch is the first Breitling watch to use a tourbillion complication and is completely customizable to customer specifications, just like Bentley cars. Customers can choose the material used to make the case, which can be made out of platinum, yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold. The dial color can be chosen to match the customers’ car interior and ten different crocodile leather straps are available. Customers can also choose a bracelet instead, made out of the same material as the case. The final touch of luxury on this watch is the wooden ring on the back of the watch that comes in 6 choices of veneer.
The Breitling Mulliner Tourbillon watch comes in a rather large 48.7 mm case with screw-down crown and a bi-directional rotating bezel. The dial features double AR coating on the sapphire crystal and the case-back is see-through. The watch is powered by a hand-wound Breitling Calibre 16B mechanical movement, based on an ETA 2892-A2 movement, with a 42 hour power-reserve and is water resistant to 50 meters. Because of the amount of customization and customer involvement in the watch making process, Breitling makes only two of these watches per month with a starting price of around $150,000 each (car not included at that price).
