Buick has been refreshing their vehicles over the last few years and they have some “sporty” looking vehicles. But for some reason, no matter how sporty their cars get, there’s a certain stigma attached to them (at least in my mind). When I think Buick, I think grandma’s car, not that my grandma ever owned or drove a Buick.
I will change my mind however, if Buick were to build their Avenir concept as a production model. Showcased at the Detroit Auto Show, the Buick Avenir concept is what a Buick flagship luxury sedan could look like. In reality, the car that may be based on this concept will look nothing like this beautiful sedan, unfortunately.
The Avenir is a large executive sedan with seating for four, with a sophisticated exterior and interior design. The car features a long hood with a short overhangs and a sloping rear end that looks a bit like the Porsche Panamera from some angles. The car measures 204.5” long and is 76” wide and rides on 21” wheels.
The interior is just what a luxury sedan should be, with luxurious leather, wood, and aluminum finishes. The front compartment has a very minimalist look with a button-free center stack and elegant center console. There are two large touchscreens, one for the various controls on the center stack and the other one is placed behind the steering wheel. The rear compartment is even more luxurious with two seats, it looks like a comfortable place for an executive to spent time in and have the ability to browse the internet or watch movies on a pair of large screens integrated into the backs of the front two seats.
As this is a concept vehicle, there are no engine specifications, but in spirit, the Avenir sedan is powered by a direct injection V6 with stop/start technology and cylinder deactivation, and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
