If you’re not a frivolous kind of guy, you might not have any interest in updating your car- after all, vehicles are powerful machines and they’re built to last. However as the years go by, it might be becoming more and more obvious that your car needs to go to the scrapyard and you need to start browsing for something new. Here are a few things to think about if you’re on the fence about getting rid of your old car.
It Keeps Breaking Down
The older the car gets, the more unreliable it’s likely to be. A few repairs here and there are to be expected as a car owner, but when everything goes wrong at once or expensive parts are breaking down it could be time to cut your losses. The last thing you want is to be putting in more money than what the car is worth. Most car owners will suffer a breakdown from time to time, and thankfully many companies can get you back on the roads or to a garage quickly. However if you’ve already had a few things go wrong and it’s not looking good for your banger, it could be time to scrap it and use the money towards a newer car. You’re not guaranteed reliability with any car, but as a general rule newer motors are going to break down less, and be easier to repair than much older models.
It’s Bad For The Environment
One great thing about newer cars is they’re kinder to the environment. Reducing emissions has been high on car manufacturers agendas for quite some time, so newer cars tend to be more environmentally friendly. If you have a very old model, particularly if it’s a larger car it’s probably going to be polluting the environment like crazy. Even if this isn’t the deciding factor for updating your banger, the fact that you could get a model that’s much cleaner and better for the environment is no bad thing. Spend some time researching the emission results of the cars on your shortlist to help you make your decision.
It’s Ruining Your Street Cred
Cars are practical, they get us from A to B and give us independence. They don’t necessarily need to look good. However, the same can be said about clothes, and when you choose outfits you’re thinking about more than just how practical they are. So if a banger is seriously ruining your street cred it might be time to give it up. If you or your family are embarrassed being seen getting into or out of it then it’s time for an upgrade. A car doesn’t have to be super flash to look good, but chances are you do have some level of standards that you’re hoping for. Spend some time looking at different vehicles within your budget, and choose something you’d be happy with.
Have you recently upgraded your old car, or are you thinking about it? What’s the deciding factor for you?
