Creatures of the Dark – 3D Drawings by Fiona Tang of Vancouver

When I was much, much younger, I loved drawing.

When I wasn’t playing out in the forest or staging fake battles with friends, I was drawing… drawing or playing video games. In fact, I ended up combining the two when I went on to do video game art for a few years – a story for another day.

Right now I want to show you the works of a talented artist named Fiona Tang. For the sake of full disclosure, I was very confused when I first saw this person, as I was convinced they were a man. Who calls their male son Fiona? In any case, Fiona is a Vancouver, Canada, based artist studying at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. As a Vancouverite myself, I approve. Check these out:

Fiona uses charcoal, acrylic paint, conte, ink, and chalk pastel to creating these incredible “3D” creatures. They’re very sketchy, and I love it. Fiona, if you’re reading this… I would love to commission a giant 3D monkey for my place.

This crocodile looks truly sinister. I think it’s the eye. If I had a white eye, well… I would have glaucoma, and people would be terrified of me.

Just lovely. If you’re not willing to make me a giant money, well… I would settle for the deer. Deal?

Truly a cheval noir. That’s French for, well… I’m sure you can figure it out. If you’re one of our Canadian readers, you should definitely know this one.

Anyway, what did you think? If you enjoyed these as much as I did, then check out Fiona’s Tumblr page. Here’s the exciting part: there’s tons of awesome pieces there that I haven’t included here. Consider my post a sampler… a taster if you will.

I really should take up drawing again one of these days…
