The world of dating is a complicated one, isn’t it? You think everything is going perfectly, until all of a sudden you say something that has caused great offence without realising what you have done wrong. Or, you think a second date is in the bag until you discover your number has been blocked! Ouch! So, where are you going wrong? Read on to discover the common dating mistakes most men are guilty of making…
Giving up after a minor mistake – A lot of men give up as soon as one little thing has gone wrong. So what if you accidentally brought up a touchy subject. Is it really the end of the world if you have shown up a bit late? Most of us will simply assume the date has gone wrong already and write it off before it has even truly got going. You made a mistake, get over it and enjoy yourself.
Being overly confident – A lot of men make the mistake of walking into the date thinking they are god’s gift and that everything is going to go amazingly. Then, the first awkward silence descends, and it quickly goes downhill. There is nothing wrong with a bit of date practice to prepare you. Whether you dial up Partyline Central or you enlist the assistance of your friends, it doesn’t matter, so long as you are more prepared and aware of your date.
Talking too much about yourself – If your favourite subject is you, this is where you are going wrong. Of course, it is an easy trap to fall into. After all, you want to make a good impression, so you start talking about your career and anything else that may show you in a good light. There is nothing wrong with this, so long as you have not fallen into a monologue. Remember, it is all about conversation – you know, the two-way thing where you ask questions and let the other person speak as well.
Making a big deal about who pays the bill – The best thing to do is simply go with what the woman wants. Offer to pay the bill, and if she protests, say you want to, and if she gives in, chances are she was just trying to be nice by offering back and she would be delighted if you paid. If she protests a third time, go Dutch – some women don’t like men paying for the date! The best thing to do is never to make a big deal about it; otherwise, it can get very awkward very fast.
Spending time on your phone – Put the phone away! Aside from getting directions and booking a cab, your phone is banned on any date. Don’t check your emails, ignore your messages, and never, under any circumstance, stop to take a selfie.
Are you guilty of committing any of the dating sins that have been mentioned above? At least you now know where you have been going wrong! Make a few changes and your next date will go much better.
