Last month we were invited to the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat launch event, we enjoying playing with the beast on the streets of Portland and then at the Portland International Raceway. During dinner conversations, there were rumors floating around about another Dodge car with the same engine, and most of the rumors were hinting at a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
Well, the speculation period is over and here’s the mighty Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat! Will we be invited to experience this beast at a track? We sure hope so!
The Charger SRT Hellcat is powered by the same engine as the Challenger, which is a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 producing a massive 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a specially tuned 8-speed automatic gearbox. I believe this is the most powerful factory-spec sedan in the world.
As you’d expect with this much power, the Charger Hellcat is fast, sprinting to 60 mph in only 3.7 seconds and doing the quarter mile in 11.0 seconds on street tires; both time are 0.2 seconds slower than the Hellcat coupe. Still, pretty impressive numbers considering the Challenger Hellcat has a starting price of $59,995.
The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat also looks the business, with a big front air-dam and a very muscular hood with a single air-intake in the middle and a pair of air vents to the sides. The car rides on sporty 20” black wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires and a unique spoiler at the back.
As with the Challenger, the Charger Hellcat also comes with a black key and a red key. The black key only allowing the driver 500 horsepower, while the red key letting the driver enjoy the entire stable of 707 horses.
We will add more pictures as they become available. (Update: New photos of the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat added)
