Effective Ways of Preventing and Treating Hair Loss

Hair loss can either be mild or extreme and can be as a result of simple conditions or complicated illnesses. Some of the symptoms of hair loss are bald patches, thinning hair, and a receding hairline. It is possible for hair loss to be treated resulting in hair regrowth and restoration.

Before you set out on a hair loss treatment journey, find out the best treatment methods that do not have side effects. It’s important that you find out what the underlying cause for the hair loss is. Some causes of hair loss are:

  • Anemia
  • Genetics
  • Pregnancy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Protein deficiency
  • Physical or emotional stress
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Hair shaft abnormalities

Methods of Treating and Preventing Hair Loss

1. Medical Treatment

Hair loss can be treated using surgery or laser therapy.

There are also many medications that are available for treating hair loss. The two main examples are:

i. Minoxidil

It’s also called Rogaine. This over-the-counter medication comes in the form of liquid foam and is used to treat male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness. Application to the scalp is done once or twice daily.

ii. Finasteride

It’s also called Propecia. The medication is taken orally and has side effects such as impotence and reduced sex drive.

2. Other Ways…

i. Corticosteroids

These can either be administered as shots or in the form of creams and ointments. The medicine works by suppressing the immune system and getting rid of alopecia areata.

ii. Hormone Replacement Therapy

The patient takes in progesterone and estrogen either through creams, patches or pills. This treatment is useful in easing symptoms associated with menopause.

iii. Light Therapy

This involves laser treatment which exposes the skin to ultraviolet rays. This method is not often recommended due to fact that it poses some risk of skin cancer, nausea, and pigmentation.

iv. Aromatherapy and Meditation

Hair loss brought about by depression and excessive anxiety can be treated by aromatherapy and meditation. These techniques are aimed at stabilizing hormonal imbalance.

 

3. Home Remedies

i. Coconut Oil

Heat up some coconut oil and use it to massage your scalp using your finget­tips. Coconut promotes hair growth and strengthens the hair follicles.

ii. Aloe Vera

This ingredient contains enzymes that enhance hair growth by repairing the cells on the scalp. One can either apply it directly on their scalp or take a spoonful on an empty stomach.
Aloe Vera also controls dandruff and itching.

iii. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil has been used to facilitate hair growth for over a century. It’s applied to the specific area that is affected by hair loss.

iv. Henna

Although it’s mostly used as a natural hair color, henna also has conditioning and hair strengthening properties.

v. Hibiscus

Hibiscus is used to nourish hair, treat dandruff, and prevent premature graying. On top of that, it also controls hair fall.
