Let me start off by saying that I just found out about this movie. Apparently Eva actually came out way back in 2011 across the pond, and to great fanfare. But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here…
Eva is a Spanish science fiction movie directed by Kike Maíllo. The movie stars Daniel Brühl (a man you likely recognize from Inglorious Basterds,) Marta Etura, Lluís Homar, and Alberto Ammann. It takes place in 2041 in a time where humans and machines live together.
That sets the stage, and the rest you’ll discover for yourself in the trailer!
What’s remarkable is that Eva has taken so long to get a North American release. As I mentioned earlier, Eva was first released in September 2011 and received great reviews across the board. So why delay so many years? My guess is that the studio was concerned about people’s general aversion to subtitles, but I could be way off base on that one.
Whatever the reason, we’ll finally see this movie sometime this year. It’s not the only robot related science fiction movie to hit North America dead last. Ex Machina, a movie about an AI powered android named Ava, has already been released in the UK with a North American release coming some time in the coming months.
It makes me sad… I could really go for some good science fiction right now.
