Assassin’s Creed: Unity has finally arrived. It’s been in development for many years now, and it’s the first Assassin’s Creed game to be developed from the ground up for the latest console generation.
Unfortunately, the release has been polarizing to say the least. Gamers the world over have reported numerous performance issues, crashes, and game-stopping bugs – like falling through the world – and though Ubisoft has released a series of patches, many of these issues still remain. It’s a frustrating time for gamers that want nothing more than to enjoy the latest Assassin’s Creed.
It’s clear that Assassin’s Creed: Unity needed more time. However, one thing is for certain: visually, the game is absolutely stunning.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue vs Unity – A Generation Gap Comparison
Though Assassin’s Creed: Unity has taken the spotlight, another Ubisoft title arrived at virtually the same time: Assassin’s Creed: Rogue. They developed this game for the last generation of consoles, and today we’re going to explore the differences in visual fidelity between the two games.
If you haven’t played either Unity or Rogue, just be aware that this video has minor spoilers. Really, it’s just spoiling some of the locations, with nothing related to the story or characters.
The footage really speaks for itself. Though the “new generation” consoles leave much to be desired in terms of pure processing power, developers are already managing to do impressive things with them. However, given the performance issues, I can’t help but wonder: how long developers will be able to keep this up? Gamers are looking for increasingly life-like graphics. If developers are already struggling to hit even 30fps at 1080p, the future of console gaming looks rather bleak.
As a PC gamer, I would be happy to see consoles fall by the wayside. It’s nothing personal, but technologically speaking they’re almost always inferior. Really, how can they not be? A fixed piece of hardware that isn’t updated for a decade? That’s not exactly conducive to rapid progress…
