Sadly, there are dozens of things that can damage our homes. Water. Mold. Construction. Fire. Fallen trees. And that’s just to name a few!
Nobody should have to feel uncomfortable in their home, and the same goes for you and your man pad too. Any damage sustained to the property will be incredibly expensive to fix, especially if you’ve put in a lot of time and effort decorating.
So, if your property has received some amount of damage, no matter how big or small, look no further! Gentlemen, here’s how to restore your man pad to its full, former glory.
Devise a repair plan
So, your home has been flooded, or has sustained some mold damage. It sucks – let’s not sugar coat proceedings. Your first port of call will be to devise a ‘repair plan’ which will help set things in motion.
In your plan, you need to write down a list of problems and their solutions. Focus on what needs immediate attention, and start there. Think of things like your utilities. Cosmetic appearance comes last! Even for a swanky man cave. Although, just because it comes last, doesn’t mean it isn’t important.
Some problems have an easy solution, like water damage, fire, and mold remediation. However, if a tree has come crashing through your roof, it’s unlikely there’ll be a quick fix. Weigh up what you want to fix first, and sort them by priority.
Financial assistance
Depending on the level of damage your house has sustained, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to manage by yourself. Fortunately, financial assistance exists, should you require it.
Star by consulting voluntary groups like the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. These groups will be able to help you in your time of need. They can provide you with food, clothing and short term shelter! Not bad at all.
Additionally, look to file an insurance claim – you can even file claims specific to floods and other kinds of damage. Under ideal conditions, contact your insurer immediately after an accident and they can cover most of the costs.
You should find receipts and proof of purchase for expensive items. This allows the insurer to see exactly what you’ve lost. It could help in the recovery and purchasing of brand new appliances.
Future proof
No problem is ever fixed forever. If you’ve suffered some home damage, make sure you take the steps to prevent it from happening again! Or, you know, it will happen again.
Future proofing isn’t a quick job, nor is it an easy one. You may have to sacrifice certain features or luxuries to get where you need to be. Some basic methods of future proofing include raising your electrical outlets off the floor, and devising a work budget.
If you have pictures of your home from before it received damage, consult them and look for areas to improve. I’m sure your memory is great, but it can’t hurt to jog it right? Pictures can help to show you what was wrong, and point out any glaring problems that need addressing.
