Every half-decent group of friends goes on holidays together. Sometimes camping, sometimes to warm and exotic locations, and sometimes just to festivals. You and your band of brothers escape from the monotony of everyday life and go wild either abroad or in town.
However, we all have that one friend that whines about camping and absolutely refuses to go. They hate the bugs, nature, roughing it… whatever it is. But I’ll tell you one thing, they’ll have no excuses for not going to a beach festival. I mean, unless they’re allergic to sun and beautiful women.
Not only is there sun and sand, but beach festivals are a good chance to listen to some of the world’s best artists while meeting new people. So with that in mind, below are some of the best beach festivals in the world. The next time your friend bitches about camping, you can check out one of these instead.
Benicassim, Spain
Every second Monday of July, thousands flock to the Spanish town of Benicassim to enjoy the Festival Internacional de Benicassim. With over 50,000 revellers, it’s one of the world’s biggest beach parties. When you have entertainment in the form of Kasabian, Paulo Nutini and The Libertines – all of which are playing this year’s festival – there’s no need to be anywhere else.
You camp in the sandy wooded area of the beach, which is good for two reasons: the trees provide so much needed shade from the beating Spanish sun, and sand is pretty damn comfortable to sleep on. With music running from 5pm to 8am, it’s either go hard or go home. Beni, as it is referred to, is the Glastonbury of beach festivals.
Hideout, Croatia
Located on Zrce Beach on the island of Pag, Hideout Festival is quickly becoming one of the most popular festivals in Europe. With the Adriatic Sea on your doorstep you can go for an early morning swim which you will soon find out is the best hangover cure you could ever imagine.
This year has entertainment from Disclosure, London Grammar and the king of cool, Nile Rodgers, and his band, Chic. It is a festival where the music is not confined to stages. Fancying partying on a boat listening to some of Europe’s best DJ’s? Well that is just an afternoon at Hideout. But the real beauty is the currency. Croatia has no Euro, rather the Kuna, which is 9.49 to the British pound. Because of this you can eat extremely well for £5 a day, leaving more money for the more important things.
Exit, Serbia
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to party in an 18th century Fortress? Probably not, but you know what? It’s absolutely amazing, and you can do so by heading to Exit Festival. Seriously, how awesome is this? I promise you will get your fill at this eight day event.
The main festival is located in the Petrovaradin Fortress, which is as awesome as it sounds. With its proximity to the River Danube, it’s only natural that there is a large array of water sports on offer. If you do it, you should get the eight day ticket as it will allow you to go to Sea Dance Festival (one of the many festivals that happen in the eight days of Exit Festival) which is as awesome as its name suggests.
Lots of cool stuff, right? If you think we’ve missed anything, leave us a comment!
