There’s something deeply fascinating about exploring abandoned, forgotten places. The world is full of them; old buildings and structures that are no longer needed, unsafe, or simply too old. Schools are no exception, like the original Glenridge Middle School in Orlando, Florida.
Closed years ago after the completion of a newer, more modern version of the school at another location, the original Glenridge Middle School was left to rot and decay. As you’ll see in the following photographs, the years of neglect have not been kind to this once great place of child punishment… err… learning.
Urbex of an Abandoned Middle School
I have no doubt that this abandoned school would have been the perfect place for squatters, but personally, I think I’ll just stick to motels and hotels for my visits to Orlando. Bit more expensive, but the cleanliness and lack of scattered plastic school chairs would probably be worth the extra money.
I really hope the classrooms didn’t look like this when school was in session. If they did, it’s no wonder the students asked to have a new school built.
If you’re looking for things to do in Orlando, you’ll have to stick with Disney World or one of the many other sights that Florida has to offer. Glenridge was demolished years ago, and all that’s left of the original school are these photographs.
If you’re interested in seeing more photos of Glenridge Middle School, you can do so by visiting its page on Urban Exploration Review (UER), an awesome resource for individuals interested in doing their own urban exploration, or urbex as the cool kids call it. There are thousands of listings scattered all over the world, and unlike this school, many of them are still intact and just waiting to be explored. Be sure to read all of the disclaimers and site information though, as some of the locations are dangerous. You’ve been warned.
This is bringing back memoirs
