Sometimes in the summer, we spend all our money on a week’s vacation, and then we’re left feeling deflated when we get home with limited cash to spend. Well, just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. Here are a few ideas on how you can enjoy your summer on cents.
Go camping
Camping is one of the cheapest vacations you can have, and it’s great fun too. Look for a site nearby and load the car with plenty of food, duvets and cushions. Then, set up camp and share stories around a campfire while you toast marshmallows. Camping often enables people to connect again because its likely you won’t have have internet… so, you’ll have to talk instead of swiping your way through social media!
Get baking
Getting creative in the kitchen is great when you’re working on a budget, plus it can be super rewarding. Dig out some exciting recipes online, shop the grocery store and see what happens. Whether you’re into healthy food or rainbow cakes it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re enjoying yourself. To give purpose to your baking, why not plan for your friends to come over afterwards to try your creations over a glass of wine and a movie?
Up in the air
Flying doesn’t have to be out of the question when you’re doing things on a budget. In fact, flying somewhere for a spontaneous trip away can often be cheaper than a stay at home vacation. To find cheap flights you need to be totally flexible with regards to the dates you’re going, which means booking in advance. You also need to carry out a search on Google flights rather than going through private airlines. Finally, think about reward credit cards and redeem all those points you’ve been collecting.
Find your community spirit
Do you even know your own neighbors? It might surprise you to find that you can strike up a real friendship with the people living right around the corner. Check what’s going on with your community and get involved. More often than not, local events are free as provided you take something along, meaning a fun and free day out. Even if it’s a disaster, at least you’ll have plenty of funny stories to tell everyone afterwards.
Treat yourself
Even if you’re working to a budget, you do need something to look forward to as a little treat. Why not book you and your loved ones in to see a show you’ve wanted to see for a while? Global favorites such as Wicked, The Lion King and Aladdin aren’t too expensive – especially at discount prices – and provide the perfect day out. You can even take your own picnic and find a spot somewhere before hand so you don’t end up spending tons of money on food.
Will you be trying any of these budget activities this summer?
