Those people who are unable afford the beautiful Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 now have another pretty awesome option. The standard G-Class is a great SUV and one of my absolute favorites but the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² has really stepped it up. The same team that created the 6×6 is also responsible for the G-Class Squared. The G500 4×4² will be making its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month and the decision on whether it will be produced or not all depends on the reaction it receives.
This G-Class on steroids uses the body of the standard five-door G500 and uses the all-wheel-drive system with portal axes from the 6×6 model (minus one axle of course). The G500 4×4² will also feature a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine which is known for its sublime power delivery, lightweight construction, and high efficiency. This newly developed engine features the twin turbochargers inside the V configuration. This engine can also be found on the AMG GT and C63 AMG.

The engine has been tuned accordingly and this direct-injection V8 will produce 416 horsepower and is mated to a seven-speed 7G-tronic automatic gearbox featuring a separate transfer case and high/low ratio gearing. This G500 4×4² is a permanent all-wheel drive and features three differential locks which can be selected by the driver while on the move. The ground clearance on this G-Wagon is 17.7-inches compared to the standard G500 which is 8.3-inches and the fording depth is 3.3-ft allowing the vehicle to travel through sand dunes with ease and driving through water and rocky terrain is a cakewalk.
The G500 4×4² also gets a new dual strut and adjustable damper system and the driver is able to choose between Comfort mode and Sport mode via a button on the center console. The vehicle sits on Mud/Terrain (MT) tires measuring in at 37×12.5×18 on special beadlock wheels.
Besides the bigger tires and increased ride height, you may notice extras such as wider flared fenders, LED light strips above the windscreen, and an AMG front bumper.
More details will be available once the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
