There are some pretty unique tables out there but most usually go unnoticed by people. I mean, a table is a table, right? Usually that would be correct but if you see the Greg Klassen Furniture collection, you’ll definitely start seeing tables and trees in a different light. The Abyss Table was pretty cool but the River Collection by Greg Klassen is amazing and just draws you in. As you’re about to discover, glass table tops add a great finesse to any style room.
Greg Klassen, artist and creator, has studied furniture design and fine woodworking around the world and his work has even won him praise from Martha Stewart. His works of art is created in the Pacific North West where Klassen takes slabs of salvaged live-edge lumber and makes polished tabletops from them. A “river” of blue glass is inserted to create a flow along the piece of finished wood.
His inspiration for the pieces comes from the Nooksack River which runs past studio and also the place where he collects the wood required for his masterpieces. All the tables are handmade using a mixture of traditional tools and help of modern machines to create unique pieces of art. No two tables are alike and each has its own character. Klassen works on one piece at a time starting with a tree and ending up with a functional piece of art. It’s a beautiful thing that a tree does not have to be cut down create furniture. Sometimes, Klassen has to wait several years for a piece of wood to dry naturally but its the very same thing that gives his furniture a sense of life.
The River Collection starts at $3,500 but each piece is unique and will have a different price. For his entire collection, checkout the Greg Klassen Furniture website.
