It’s David’s birthday today, and Weyland Industries is celebrating with the release of this creepy new Prometheus viral video! David, played by the very talented Michael Fassbender, is the synthetic human we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of when Prometheus hits theaters this June.
We’ve seen a very brief teaser for this a while back, and now we finally learn exactly what David is capable of doing. After a brief shot of a David inside of a storage tank complete with space-age foam popcorn, the robot then proceeds to tell us all about himself. What he can do, what makes him sad, and what he thinks about, which unsurprisingly seems to revolve around robotic and heavenly topics. Will David end up finding God?
Prometheus Viral Video – David’s Birthday
Michael really seems to have nailed this role, from his overly calm mannerisms and voice, to his almost birdlike movements, everything he does while playing David conveys one creepy-beneath-the-surface style of android. Though David obviously seems pleasant enough, I can’t shake the feeling that if he actually existed, he would put a knife in someone’s back the moment they weren’t looking. Never trust a person who is *too* calm, there’s probably something profoundly wrong with them. You need only look over David’s shoulders in one of the later scenes to see a pair of ominous looking skulls, probably from the other robots he murdered.
Trailer Highlights
Prometheus hits theatres June 8th, which is excellent timing, because I feel like I’ve been waiting fuckin’ forever to watch it. Seriously, why has it taken this long to produce another (good) movie in the Aliens universe? No, I don’t count any of the Aliens vs Predator abominations that have infected theatres over the years. Ridley, I’m glad that you haven’t forsaken us. I hope this movie makes putrid amounts of money so that your new Blade Runner film comes out even faster.
