When they’re not busy incorporating their top of the line equipment for soldiers serving on the front lines, Hazard 4® and 911 Supply decided to team up and send us an updated version of their very versatile sling packs. But with a product coming from a company with this type of calibre we couldn’t just do a run of the mill type of review. So, I decided to hit the gun range to see how the pack affected my aim.
“Hazard 4®’ is derived from the standard classification index of threats: ‘1’ being low, through ‘2 & 3’ being moderate to ‘4’ being potentially deadly. Whether these threats are posed by our customers’ environment, the weather, industrial conditions, or a human threat like an unseen ambush, Hazard 4® gear is designed to be the last line of defense for its owner. When no one else may be around to render aid, we hope the functionality of our packs, bags, and other personal equipment may make the crucial difference that tips the odds in their favor.” – www.hazard4.com
At first sight, the Plan B places zero subtlety on its primary purpose. The overall draping of the pack in a variety of pockets, straps, and molle webbing enables the carrier to strap on a multitude of different sized rifle and pistol magazines or pouches. Though the inside may appear tight, you can snugly fit a SLR, netbook, or quite surprisingly, a carbine rifle with a foldable stock with the help of a small zipper hole at the top of the pack to slide through a barrel or camel pack hose.
When you do finally manage to fully load the sling, weight and comfort issues are non existent because of the super comfy thermo-moulded back panel and a thick shoulder strap that sits perfectly on the chest. However, by testing this pack throughout the week, I wondered: at what price does comfortable get in the way of, say, a quick pistol match?
So I decided to hit up the same DVC Indoor Shooting Center as mentioned in our previous post and try my aim against a zombie while strapping on the sling. Using a 9mm Glock, I focused my shots at three points; the head, the chest, and the groin. As predicted, the bulky shoulder, as comfy as it was, played a factor for head and groin shots.
But since I’m not trapped in a world of the Walking Dead where I should be more concerned with my head shots against the daily confrontation of zombies, I’m more than happy with the Plan B for more relaxing adventures.
