Homeworld and its subsequent sequels are some of the few RTS games I truly regret missing out on. Released in 1999 by Relic Entertainment, the Homeworld series went on to re-define the genre. By all accounts, it was a remarkable series. Unfortunately, I just never got around to playing any of them.
I’ve got this… thing, about playing old games. Though gameplay is extremely important to me, I just can’t handle extremely dated graphics. Call me shallow, but I just can’t do it. So after having missed out on the initial release of the Homeworld games, I never went back and played it. That’s a shame for many reasons, but it seems I’ll finally get my shot: Gearbox entertainment, the new IP holders of the Homeworld franchise, are re-releasing the games in HD glory. They’ve even brought on key members of the original team to do it.
The Homeworld Remastered Collection introduces Relic’s acclaimed space strategy games Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to modern players and operating systems using the newest sophisticated graphics rendering technology, plus a fully remastered score and new, high fidelity voice recordings by the original actors.
But here’s the most exciting part: the Homeworld remastered collection is already out. As I’m writing these words, the game has just arrived on Steam for a whole new generation of gamers to enjoy.
I have a feeling this re-mastered version will have been worth the wait.
