How’s Your Current Dating Profile Working Out for You?

Sometimes, writing the Great American Novel might be easier than putting together a dating profile. Writing about yourself is hard; introducing yourself as a romantic partner is even harder. Luckily, the folks at Review Weekly have your back. They’ve put together some useful research on the topics, words, and pictures that are most likely to help you win the interest of women on dating sites.

You may have heard that women aren’t known for being consistent, and their responses to dating profiles aren’t always easy to understand. Perhaps the women who love when you talk about puppies aren’t the same women who want to hear about your tattoos. Both of those topics scored highly with the fairer sex, along with activities like surfing, skiing, hiking, going to live music performances and practicing yoga. To be fair, men weren’t much more consistent, showing increased interest in women who talked about philosophy, fashion and Radiohead.

The research itself suggests that if you can honestly add the words sweet, ambitious, thoughtful, and spontaneous to your profile, do so. Selling yourself as physically fit, funny, outgoing, and optimistic will also work in your favor. Don’t forget the importance of photos: Look away from the camera and avoid smiling to achieve the right level of manly disinterest. If you’re using out-of-date photos and fudging your height and income, you are a typical online dater — but be warned that the women you meet are probably doing the same.
