I come from a hard-working, close-knit family. My brother is a really great guy, but he’s prone to partying a bit too hard. This has gotten him fired from a couple of jobs and put him on the wrong side of a parade of ex-girlfriends. It had never gotten him in trouble with the law, however…until recently.
Last Friday night, I got a call from my mom. My brother had gotten arrested on a DUI charge. She was frantic to get him out, but the bail was $5,000. None of us have that kind of money, so we initially weren’t sure what to do.
I got off the phone and talked to my girlfriend. “We need to find a company that specializes in California bail bonds,” she said. “They’ll put forth the money to get him out.”
What Are Bail Bonds, Exactly?
For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of bail bonds (as I was before this process), bail bond companies help loved ones post bail for someone who has been accused of a crime. The bail bond company assumes responsibility for the defendant actually showing up for their scheduled court date once their released. For assuming this responsibility, the bail bond company makes a bail bond premium of 10% the amount of the bail.
Finding the Right California Bail Bond Company
Upset about the entire situation, I wanted to deal with a family-oriented company who could understand our situation. I found the information for Remedy Bail and made the call.
Initially, I was nervous, as I had nothing of any value to put down as collateral. Much to my surprise, Remedy didn’t demand any collateral – just my signature as a guarantee that the money would be repaid. They told me that they do demand collateral in some cases (I assume ones in which the bail price is set extremely high).
The people at Remedy Bail were truly great. They walked my family through the entire process and got my brother released as quickly as possible. He was really shaken by the experience and says it was a wakeup call in regards to his drinking. I made him promise to get help and he’s scheduled to attend his first support meeting next week.
While I wouldn’t wish this kind of situation on anyone, I’m incredibly glad that there are reputable, understanding bail bonds companies out there to help families like mine out when the worst happens.
