With the release of ID Software’s Rage drawing ever closer, the team behind the title has started trickling out new footage and screenshots to wet our appetite. This new weapons trailer showcases a slew of weapons available to you as a loner trying to survive the cruelty of the wasteland and of the evil midget clowns.
Honestly, who likes clowns? I know I don’t, and I’m looking forward to blowing them away in the arena that’s shown in the trailer.
The Weapons of Rage
Now, below is a list of the weapons shown, and my own brief and probably unsatisfying comments about them.
- Authority Machine Gun: This reminds me a bit of the assault rifle from Doom 3, with a red-dot sight, and with a slightly more utilitarian styling. I like the meaty thwack thwack sound that the gun makes.
- The Pistol: If Deckard’s hand-cannon made love to a flair gun, this would be the result. The Pistol looks like it packs a wallop, and given that you get a scope as well, it’s probably quite effective even at a distance.
- Settler Machine Gun: The machine gun, which looks like a real-life AK47, looks like a more wastelandish version of the Authority Machine Gun. It seems to fire faster, and I’m guessing it has a larger clip as well.
- The Turret: Straight from Aliens, this automated machine gun mows through enemies in the trailer as the player stands back and watches.
- Wingstick: Remember the ferule child from The Road Warrior? I bet he wishes he had a weapon like this. His boomerang has nothing on this mean looking… wing…stick… thing. Toss it at your foe and watch his head roll off.
- Shotgun: A typical single barrel shotgun featuring a report that sounds like a person smashing a ballpein hammer against an i-beam. This shotgun looks about as satisfying as when I fired one at the range, and that was most satisfying.
- Crossbow: Lastly we’re shown the crossbow, which appears to have multiple ammo types, including electrified bolts. The shots from this look extremely powerful, and the thunk sound is excellent.
Rage is slated for release this September on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
The only thing i hate about ID games is the lack of weapons 7 weapons now comon, it should atleast have 12 ! Id love for every game to be like borderlands weapon wise. But alot more customization instead of random guns.
Keep in mind that there may be more weapons, but these are the only ones I saw in the trailer so far.
