Planning your next holiday? Look no further than your homeland. According to a recent survey conducted by Away Resorts holiday homes, over 1/3 of the 500 participants will be choosing to holiday in the UK in 2018. Bu this doesn’t mean they are giving up their sandy beaches, 44% of the respondents said that they will be looking for a location near a beach for their staycation.
The staycation has been gaining popularity over the last few years, with many deciding to stay on British soil for their annual holiday, but this isn’t necessarily for the reasons that you may think.
Shorter travel time? Don’t be so sure. The survey revealed that Britons are actually willing to travel over four hours to reach their desired UK destination, meaning that it isn’t the long-haul flights that are stopping them from traveling abroad.
What about the fact it is cheaper? Wrong again. The majority of respondents, 33%, said they will be paying between £250 and £500 per person for their UK break! The average the UK family of four spends on a holiday is approximately £1212, working out at £303 per person. This makes the amount the survey takers spend on UK holidays in line with the national average for all holidays, meaning they are no cheaper after all.
So, what keeps people in the UK instead of venturing abroad? It seems to simply be down to location, location, location. Of those that answered the survey, 60% said that the local area is the biggest influencer when booking their holiday.
