The environment is on a crisis and we have to make sure that global warming is prevented else the situation might get critical. Around the world, the planet has become warm enough that has led to the tearing of the ozone layer letting in harmful rays that melt away the icebergs in Antarctica and causes skin problems for people all around.
So there is a debate that whether capitalism is responsible for global warming. Capitalism is an economic scenario where most of the property of a country belongs to private owners. So you might wonder how it affects global warming.
1. Property is put to industrial use
When an owner has a property of their own, they are allowed to use it in whichever way they desire including in a financial way that would bring in profit. the owner can decide to put the property to industrial use by construction industries, buildings, etc. Thereby, global warming comes into the picture. Too many industries and buildings are the sole reason behind it. So if it continues, then global warming will only get worse.
2. Deforestation occurs
When a private property owner buys land, they can construct whatever they choose on the land. If the land is full of trees, they are allowed to cut down the trees. Deforestation is not favorable to the environment. But when capitalism increases, the owners of the property do not tend to care about that. They directly opt for deforestation keeping in mind their own profit and gain. Deforestation is the main cause of global warming and it begins here.
3. Afforestation becomes an option
Deforestation is set and done. But afforestation or planting tree in their land is a matter of self-interest. In such a case, it is impractical that owners plant trees on their lands to pave way for a green Earth. They would not want to waste an area of land to public welfare. Thereby afforestation becomes an option that the majority of the people tend to neglect. If no trees are planted and all the existing trees are cut down, then global warming would be greatly induced.
Conclusion
Capitalism might be an economic term but its environmental effects are really hard to see through. So if the percentage of capitalists is huge in a country, then it is the individual’s interest to act accordingly to prevent global warming or not. As far as humans are concerned, the chances of individual interest in preventing global warming are very less. So it is advised to think about the future in terms of mere human existence and do the needful for saving Earth from global warming. If people tend to run after money and profit in a selfish way, then oxygen being the basic necessity might become a luxury.
