In the last couple of years we have reviewed the F-Type S roadster with supercharged V6 engine, we have reviewed the F-Type R roadster with the supercharged V8 engine, and we have reviewed the F-Type S Coupe with the supercharged V6. We’ve spent quite a bit of time behind the wheels of the F-Type coupe/convertible, and each time we were behind the wheel, we’ve had a big stupid grin on our faces.
To give us even more thrills and to continue to ride on the success of this sports car, Jaguar has introduced a new version of the F-Type, called the F-Type SVR, available as coupe or roadster. If “SVR” sounds familiar to you that’s because you’re thinking of the Range Rover Sport SVR, and SVR stands of “Special Vehicle Operations”. SVR works on hardcore versions of JLR vehicles.
The Jaguar F-Type SVR is powered by the same 5.0 liter V8 engine found on the F-Type R, but now it produces 567 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, mated to the same 8-speed automatic transmission found on other F-Type models. The ZF transmission has been tuned for even quicker shifts. The SVR F-Type also benefits from a bit of reduction in weight, with a new exhaust system that weighs 35 pounds (16 kg) less and other lightweight materials reduce a further 20 pounds (9 kg). Weight can be reduced further with the optional ceramic brake package, which weighs 55 pounds (25 kg) less, for a total weight loss of 110 pounds (50 kg). All this results in a quicker time to 60 mph, the F-Type SVR does the 0 – 60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 mph in coupe form and 195 mph in roadster form.
The 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR has a starting price of $126,945 for the coupe and $129,795 for the roadster, in the United States.
