Jaguar has been on a roll lately, introducing some pretty sweet cars; the latest car to come out of their workshop is the Jaguar Project 7 Concept. The car is homage to the D-Type race car which was produced from 1954 to 1957 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race three times. The name “Project 7” pays tribute to the company’s 7 – 24 Hours of Le Mans wins between 1951 and 1990.
The Project 7 is a design study and won’t make it into a production model (at least for now). The car is based on the very popular Jaguar F-Type convertible, turned into a speedster.
The Project 7 has a lower windshield that’s raked at a steeper angle and the addition of a hump on the trunk behind the driver’s seat, which is also a roll cage; these additions give the Project 7 that classic racer look. Other body upgrades include larger air intakes in the front bumper, a carbon fiber splitter, new side skirts, carbon fiber mirror caps, carbon fiber hood vents, larger rear diffuser, fixed rear spoiler, and 20” wheels with carbon fiber inserts.
The interior is also upgraded with carbon fiber trim pieces, quilted leather seat, the removal of the passenger seat, and aluminum pedals. The area where the passenger seat used to be is now used to store the driver’s helmet.
The Jaguar Project 7 concept is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine, also found in the F-Type V8 S, but it produces an additional 54 horsepower and 41 pound-feet of torque; for a total of 542 HP and 501 lb-ft of torque. According to Jaguar, the Project 7 sprints to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph. Watch the video below to listen to the brutal and sweet sound of the V8 in action! (hint – turn on the speakers and turn up the volume)
The Jaguar Project 7 Concept will be showcased at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed and it will be driven by Mike Cross, the Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity at Jaguar.
