We’ve written about a number of electric bicycles and motorcycles and today we’ll be adding one more to the list. What you’re looking at may look like a lady riding on top of a monstrous snail but it is in fact the Johammer J1 electric motorcycle. The electric motorbikes such as the Brammo Empulse R, Energica Ego, and Zero Electric look like more traditional motorcycles while the Johammer J1 is completely different and unique in the design department.
The Johammer J1 electric motorcycle is designed and manufactured in Austria and the vehicle has a cruising range of 125 miles (201 km) which is not too bad. Unfortuantely, what is bad about this particular vehicle is the disgusting price tag which starts at $31,775 for the J1.150 and $34,500 for the J1.200.
A Snail or a Slug?
The Johammer J1.150 has a 150km range while the Johammer J1.200 has the 200+km range. Other electric motorcycles which we’ve written about have similar performance yet close to half the price. The one interesting thing about the Johammer J1 is that it looks more like a chopper than a sports bike, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear proper safety gear such as J&S Accessories Helmets, and not one of those beanies or skull caps that those chopper riders wear.
The electric gear and controls are situated in the back wheel with no maintenance requirements and at the core lies a newly developed battery system that represents the cutting edge of technology. The torsionstiff middle-frame is made out of aluminum and is home to the spring damper and battery pack.
If the design wasn’t unique enough, both the 2.4-inch rear view mirrors are also multifunctional and display all relevant information such as speed, available range, and battery life.
The Johammer J1.150 weighs in at 350 pounds and a battery capacity of 8.3kWh while the Johammer J1.200 weighs in at 390 pounds and features a battery capacity of 12.7 kWh. The Johammer J1’s are available in a number of colors which include silver, white, blue, green, and yellow.
Overall, a unique looking bike that looks to be a lot more comfortable than the electric sport bikes but with such a ridiculous price range, I’d much rather just get an electric car or hybrid vehicle.
