Land Rover has been updating their vehicle lineup over the last few years which started with the Evoque a few years ago and the introduction of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport recently. The next vehicle to get a complete makeover will probably be the Discovery or LR4, as it’s referred to in North America. The Discovery name will probably make it back to North American shores and here’s a preview of what the next generation will probably look like, in the form of the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept.
I’ve never been behind the wheel of an LR4/Discovery, but I might be reviewing it in the near future. The current generation LR4 has a boxy design, not as boxy as the Defender though. The Discovery Vision concept, on the other hand, has a more sleek looking design and borrows heavily from other Range Rover vehicles. The design is also very close to the Ford Explorer; I know LR used to be owned by Ford but that was a while ago (2000 to 2008), do they design vehicles that far in advance?
The Discovery Vision Concept is a pretty sporty looking vehicle, and in production-form, the new vehicle will have an emphasis on more luxury and creature comforts, taking the Discovery line of vehicles more upscale. The concept vehicle gets rid of the B-pillar and features suicide doors, I doubt this design element will make it into production. The back of the vehicle does have a boxy look to it, which pays tribute to the current boxy design of the LR4/Discovery.
The Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show, with production and sales possibly starting in 2015.
