As I write these words, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is less than a month away from release. I’m excited as only a born-again Metal Gear Solid fan could be, having “discovered” the series with the PC release of Ground Zeroes. I’ve missed out on many years of MGS goodness, and I intend to make up for lost time.
Today we’ve got a great new gameplay video from Gamescom showing off Mother Base, your platform of operations for everything in the world of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Mother Base is where your recruited soldiers will live. It’s the place stolen equipment will go, and where new equipment and technologies are developed with the help of some talented Diamond Dog scientists and researchers. You can expand Mother Base, and other people can try and stop your expansion, stealing valuable soldiers and equipment.
In short, Mother Base is going to be a huge part of the MGS: V experience. So if you’re interested in learning more about this core feature before the game hits retail in about a month, this is the video for you. It weighs in around 30 minutes, so set some time aside, grab a drink, and enjoy.
I’m excited about the sheer scale of both Mother Base and Forward Base of Operations. The single player campaign seems massive, but these other elements seem likely to expand the game a significant amount. When the game launches in September, keep an eye out… I may be the one sneaking into your base and messing up your stuff.
