Last year we wrote about the Lexus LF-NX concept, a CUV I thought was too “different” looking to make it into production. Well, I was wrong, here’s the production version of the concept, called the Lexus NX.
Unlike most people, I actually liked the LF-NX concept (minus the massive grill at the front), it was really aggressive and looked out of this world. The production version has been toned down, but still features the dreaded massive grill at the front.
I wasn’t really a big fan of the design on the new IS sedan when I first saw pictures of and wrote an article on it, but it has grown on me and the other day I saw a white one that looked really sharp. So the Lexus NX might grow on me too? I’ll just have to wait until I see a few in person.
The production NX is still pretty angular; it kind of reminds me of the Mazda CX-5 with lots of straight lines. It doesn’t look too bad, based on the pictures, and if you don’t look at the front grill. The interior on the other hand is a different story, it looks very good; it has a very clean layout and uses real buttons instead of touchscreens found on many new vehicles.
Lexus hasn’t provided any details on the engines and performance figures, the vehicle will come in at least three trims. The Lexus NX 200t will feature the company’s first ever turbocharged engine, a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo. The other trims are the naturally aspirated NX 200 and the hybrid NX 300h. Lexus will officially debut the NX crossover at the Beijing Auto Show next week. Via: Lexus
