Limited Edition Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA Watch

Romain Jerome, the watchmaker famous for taking moon dust, volcanic ash from Iceland, and metal from the Titanic and putting it into their DNA line of watches (seen here).  The watchmaker has now created a new watch in the same line but with a bit less exotic material.  Their latest creation is the DeLorean DNA watch and yes the watches contain metal from the famous DeLorean DMC-12 sports car.

I don’t think I need to give you a history lesson on the DeLorean DMC-12 sport car, if you haven’t been living under a rock then you should know what car I’m talking about.  If you don’t know about the car, I suggest you download one of the Back to the Future movies.

DeLorean DMC-12 Sports Car

The Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA watch is limited to only 81 pieces; the car debuted in 1981, so the 81 seems appropriate.  Maybe RJ will create a “Back to the Future” special edition of this watch in the future and hopefully that one will come with a time machine or at least a Flux Capacitor.  The watch doesn’t really have a car theme to it, it features an engraving of the DMC-12 on the case back and only the bezel is made out of metal from the car(s).  There is a sub-dial that features red and amber colors, which is meant to represent the taillights of the DMC-12.

The stainless steel case measure 46mm and features a clean dial with brushed steel surfaces and three sub-dials.  There are no numbers on the dial and the chronograph sub-dials, which would make it a bit hard to use the chronograph function (not like anyone ever uses the chrono function on these watches anyways).  The watch is attached to the wrist via an “upholstery” black leather strap with grey stitches; the strap is designed to look like the upholstery in the car.

The Romain Jerome DeLorean DNA watch is powered by a 23 jewel RJ001-CH caliber mechanical automatic movement with a 42 hour power reserve.  These limited edition watches are priced at $15,900 each, so if you can afford them you better buy them now because in real life there are no DeLorean time machines so you won’t be able to go back in time and buy one (you could always use eBay instead ;)).
