Limited Edition TAG Heuer Indy 500 Centennial Chronograph

The Indy 500 is just around the corner, it’s also called “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” by some.  I don’t know about that, it’s just another “race” where the guys (and a few girls) go left and then straight and left and so on.  Sure I’ll watch a bit of it but I wouldn’t accuse it of being the “greatest”, I’ll go as far as calling it a good race, only because it’s the race’s 100th anniversary.

To celebrate that anniversary, TAG Heuer has just released a special edition chronograph watch, called the TAG Heuer Indy 500 Centennial Chronograph Limited Edition, which is based on the Swiss watchmaker’s Formula 1 watch and only 1,000 pieces will be produced.

The watch face features a grey brick pattern which mimics the look of the famous “yard of bricks” start/finish line at the track; the entire race track used to be covered with bricks back in the day.  Other “upgrades” include the Indianapolis 500 logo in the center of the dial at the 6 o’clock position and the words “Indy 500” on the bezel.  The watch comes in a 44 mm steel case and features a chronograph and a tachymeter; it’s water resistant to 200 meters and can be equipped with a steel bracelet or a rubber strap.

There’s also “TAG Heuer Formula 1” at the 11 o’clock position, I don’t know if TAG forgot to remove that or what the deal is with that?  Because as far as I know, Indy and Formula 1 have nothing to do with each other and this would be a deal breaker for me if I were a hard core Indy 500 fan who just had to have an official watch.

The TAG Heuer Indy 500 Centennial Chronograph watch will be presented to the winner on May 29, 2011; for those interested in buying the watch, it’s priced at $1,650.
