In a world where people are becoming increasingly sedentary, smart businesses are putting in a lot of time, money, and creative effort to capitalize on that massive reserve of laziness. Queue Cherry, the new mobile application that allows you to send the company your GPS location, and have them come wash your fucking car. No, seriously. They drive over… and wash your car.
Open their mobile app, send them your location automatically, and they’ll come wash your car anywhere. The question is, do they truly mean anywhere? Could I simply drive my vehicle into the middle of the desert, or dump it into the ocean and ask them to come clean it? At $29 per wash, they better show up anywhere, and like it too.
It’s a funny thing, because I’m all for novel applications of mobile technology when they’re useful – such as the California based cab service Uber – but this service seems extremely unnecessary to me. Not only that, but it also seems wasteful. Cherry makes a point of listing their service as Eco-friendly, but what about all the wasted gas of having someone drive to your vehicle to wash it? Have people really become so lazy that they can’t spend a few minutes wiping their vehicle down with a sponge? Look how much fun these people are having…
If Only the Cherry Carwash Service was Like This
Cherry is available through their website, or by downloading their mobile app. If you get a chance to try the service, please leave us a comment – especially if you were awesome enough to request a car wash in an awkward or confusing location, such as the ocean floor.
I think a better comparison is to compare Cherry to taking your car to a traditional car wash. With that perspective, Cherry doesn’t seem wasteful.
You know, you’re right. Driving to the car wash uses gas, etc. Perhaps the Cherry uses more fuel efficient cars than what most regular people are driving?
