The Geneva Motor Show is in full swing and there are plenty of new cars to talk about, and the Maserati Alfieri Concept is worth talking about. Although the car is currently a concept, it’s highly likely it will make it into production. The question now is, is this a brand new model or will it be replacing the GranTurismo, which has been around for 7 years.
The introduction of this car celebrates the 100 year anniversary of Maserati automobiles; the car is name after the most prominent of the Maserati brothers, Alfieri. Alfieri Maserati founded “Officine Alfieri Maserati” in Bologna a hundred years ago.
Like the GranTurismo, the Alfieri is a 2+2 but its wheelbase is 9.5” shorter, making it more of a sports car than a grand tourer. The Maserati Alfieri is powered by a 4.7 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 460 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 384 pound-feet (520 Nm) of torque at 4,750 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox. For braking, the Alfieri borrows the carbon ceramic discs from the GranTurismo MC Stradale, with Brembo calipers.
I personally like the design of this concept car, obviously there will be changes made to the design if/when it makes it to production. The rear-end has a bit of Zagato flavor to it, but according to Maserati, the car gets its design DNA from the Pininfarina designed 1954 Maserati A6 GCS-53.
The interior is not really representative of a real production interior. It’s too minimalist for an Italian sports car; we all know the interiors on Italian sports cars have a certain flamboyant touch to them. Via: Maserati
