Just yesterday I posted the teaser for this Ferris Bueller inspired Honda commercial, and already the full deal has hit the internet. It’s sad too, because I had such high hopes for this. It’s a commercial, featuring Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller; how can a person screw that up? You see, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of my favorite 80s movies, and probably one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s been years since I’ve had my Bueller fix, and I expected nothing short of the second coming of Christ from this commercial. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t the case.
The commercial starts off with Bueller calling in sick to work, in typical Bueller fashion, but there’s something wrong. As you watch the commercial unfold, you’ll probably realize, as I did, that Matthew’s delivery is just so… dead, and flat. Add to that the repetition of the exact same tune for the entire duration of the commercial, and it just makes for a really crappy experience. I realize it’s just a commercial, but it’s Ferris Bueller for fucks sake!
Ferris Bueller Inspired “Matthew’s Day Off” Commercial
As disappointing as the commercial is, at least I can rest easy with the assumption that it’s bad enough that no one will try and re-make Ferris Bueller’s Day Off anytime soon. Can you imagine the likes of Shia LaBeouf playing Bueller in a Michael Bay directed film? The thought of it gives me the shivers.
totally agree… *yawn*
