I’ve loved the Max Payne series of games since Remedy released the first one so many years ago. It had that perfect combination of dark humor, action, and fantastic storytelling that gripped me from start to finish. Though it’s been a long time coming, and is being developed by another studio, I’m excited with the direction that Rockstar Games is taking the series with Max Payne 3. This new trailer shows off all the work they’ve done to improve the bullet time dynamic that we all loved so much from the previous games.
The trailer shows plenty of bullet time action sequences, but it also shows just how much they’ve increased player flexibility with bullet time, while also dramatically improving the physics and animations through a combination of motion capture and their proprietary physics engine. As you’ll see in a moment, the combination makes for one visually stunning game.
Max Payne 3 “Bullet Time” Technology
I’m surprised to find myself saying this, but I’m actually almost as excited for Max Payne 3 as I was for the previous two games. My initial skepticism of a new developer has long since faded, and now I can’t help but feel incredibly excited to try the game out when it arrives this May. Rockstar is a company known for its excellent storytelling, a quality that was a hallmark of the Max Payne series. That combined with their beautiful new technology, and the various improvements they’ve made to gameplay should mean that we get a pretty sweet looking game. More importantly, the gameplay looks like a ton of fun.
The Max Payne 3 release date is May 15th, 2012, which really isn’t that far away. It’s arriving for PC, Xbox360, and PS3. You all know what the superior platform is, though.
