A couple of years ago MB&F introduced the 5th watch in their Horological Machine line (HM), the HM5 “On the Road Again” – a watch that was inspired by the supercars of the 1970’s and also the ana-digi watch, the Amida Digitrend.
MB&F likes to go back to their original watches and create new (and improved?) versions. This time they’re created the MB&F HM5 CarbonMacrolon, which is essentially a blacked-out version of the original HM5 watch, and features new purple highlights.
Unlike other manufacturers that produce black versions of their watches, see yesterday’s Urwerk EMC Black watches, the MB&F HM5 CarbonMacrolon isn’t simply coated black, it’s made out something called Makrolon. Makrolon is a polycarbonate material created by Bayer. MB&F added carbon tubes to the exotic material, and we get the black watch and the name “CarbonMacrolon”. Makrolon is said to be extremely durable, lightweight, and as strong as steel and can also be polished like steel.
Other than the use of the exotic material, the HM5 CarbonMacrolon watch is everything the original watch was. It still comes in a 51.5mm long x 49mm wide x 22.5mm thick case and features the cool louvers, found on 70’s and 80’s sports cars, that can be manually opened to let light in and charge the lume. The watches are powered by 30-jewel automatic movements with 42 hours of power reserve and are water resistant to 30 meters.
The Maximilian Busser & Friends Horological Machine No. 5 CarbonMacrolon watches are limited to 66 pieces and are priced at $63,000; making them the second most affordable MB&F watches. Via: MB&F
