McLaren’s newly released 650S sports car, or as we like to call it, the face lifted MP4-12C, gets a new racing version in the form of the 650S GT3. The car was shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and is the successor to the 12C GT3 race car. The car is eligible to race in the GT3 category races around the world.
Powering the 650S GT3 is a race tuned 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 493 horsepower (500 PS), the same as the 12C GT3, mated to a 6-speed sequential racing gearbox.
The McLaren 650S GT3 is based on the street-going 650S, but the race car features more aggressive bodywork. The front sees bigger air-intakes and a big splitter, the sides also feature large air intakes, and at the rear there’s massive fixed wing and a diffuser. The car is also 2 inches wider with wide front and rear fenders and comes with bigger wheels. The race car also benefits from improved aerodynamics and a race tuned suspension.
The McLaren 650S GT3 race car has a starting price of £330,000 (about $566,000 US at today’s exchange rate). McLaren is also offering the 650S GT3 kit to owners of the 12C GT3, to turn those cars into the 650S GT3. Via: McLaren
