Mercedes-Benz first showed off the G63 AMG 6×6 and followed up with the G500 4×4². The 6×6 is only available in limited numbers and extremely pricey while the G500 4×4² is only a concept and a final decision on production has not yet been made. Most car tuners that modify the Mercedes-Benz G-Class never focus on its off-road capabilities as the focus is usually on the aesthetics of the vehicle. Mcchip on the other hand has some other ideas for the G-Class.
From the looks of it, Mcchip’s MC800 package for the G63 AMG went the G500 4×4² route. By doing so, they are able to allow the G63 AMG to travel places it normally would have difficulty going. The German tuning house “borrows” Mercedes’ original formula by retrofitting portal axles seen on the G63 AMG 6×6 and the G500 4×4².
The next major improvement is a change in the suspension and wheels setup. Mcchip uses KW DDC suspension and 18-inch Beadlock wheels wrapped 37×15.20r18 off-road tires which gives the vehicle 150mm of ground clearance and 120mm of width. These three modifications alone give the Mercedes SUV a much higher ground clearance and increase the approach and departure angles.
But Mcchips area of expertise is chip tuning and they have done just that here with the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. The MC800 package for the G63 AMG allows the V8 engine to go from an already impressive 537hp and 560 lb-ft of torque to 799hp and 701 lb-ft of torque! With great power also comes greater stopping abilities. Although no details are mentioned, Mcchip says that a powerful braking system is also included int the package. This boost in power allows the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to hit a top speed of 143mph.
