When Mercedes-Benz unveils a new car, it’s only a matter of time before an AMG version of that car is released. Without further ado, here’s the all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4MATIC Coupe; replacing the CL63 AMG.
I really liked the looks of the new S-Class Coupe when I first saw pictures of it last month, so naturally I like the way the S63 AMG Coupe looks; and I’m also a big fan of all the technology Mercedes engineers were able to pack in this car. The S63 AMG Coupé is powered by the same engine that’s found under the hood of the S63 sedan, which a 5.5 liter biturbo V8 that produces 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, which is an increase of 41 HP and 74 lb-ft over the car it replaces. Power is sent to all four wheels (33/67% front/rear split) via a 7-speed automatic transmission.
This is a big car but with a power engine, it still manages to do the 0 – 60 mph run in 3.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. The Coupé has been put on a bit of a diet, it weighs 140 pounds less than its predecessor; the weight loss is achieved by using a lightweight lithium-ion battery, lightweight brakes, and optional lightweight forged wheels, and the use of aluminum on the body.
The S63 AMG Coupe is equipped with a sports exhaust system with moving flaps. Under normal driving conditions, the flaps remain closed for a quieter ride but in Sport and Manual modes, they open up to really showcase the sound of the hand-built AMG V8 engine. The car is also equipped with an AIRMATIC air suspension for a sportier ride.
The interior is carried over from the standard S-Class Coupe, which is an extremely luxurious place and I’d love to spend my time in it during long (or short) drives. The seats have been upgraded with bigger side bolsters and the stock steering wheels has been replaced with an AMG unit. Via: MB
