Rene is the owner of a bare-bones, no frills gym called Project Warrior. He trains athletes, professionals, and “regular people” like me. I’ve known and trained under his tutelage for years, and when I discovered that he started writing fitness articles, I was horrified. I’ve always known Rene as an incredibly capable artist, trainer, and traceur, but never a writer. After having read his latest article about what he feels are the true qualities of strength, well, I’m slightly less horrified.
I really like Rene’s views on relative vs absolute strength, and what they mean in terms of practical real world value. Weighing 300 lbs and being able to lift a car is impressive, but how well will that same person perform for other feats, such as climbing or swimming? Probably not as well as someone who weighs 170 lbs but has high relative strength and is able to move their own body in a far more efficient manner than the 300lb guy.
