You generally don’t associate “sporty” with vehicles such as the Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Ford Fiesta, and the Honda Fit. These are your entry-level, point A to point B vehicles although these days these so called “entry-level” vehicles have options which used to be only available on premium brands and trims. Besides the Ford Fiesta ST, these types of vehicles are pretty boring over all but Honda tuner, MUGEN, has decided to spruce things up for the latest generation of the Honda Fit.
And by sporty, I mean “sporty looking” offering a slew of parts they have developed. The parts seen in the photographs here will be available via MUGEN shops and Honda Cars throughout Japan. The company already has a product lineup for the previous Honda Fits and now they are developing a new series under the “Premium Smart Sports” line. Unfortunately it’s all show and no go. If these car manufacturers aren’t following in the footsteps of Ford (Fiesta ST), at least the tuners should try to make a real attempt at something performance oriented. Bodykits are nice and all but how about a bit of power/performance enhancements?
The MUGEN kit for the latest generation Honda Fit includes two types of front spoilers; a fully redesigned bumper, or a lip spoiler which can be attached to the stock bumper. The aerodynamics kit also includes side skirts with the customer having the option of having the lip spoiler and side skit in either single body color or two-tone theme with body color and flat black. MUGEN has also redesigned a new wing spoiler for the roof in carbon fiber which is available for the RS/S Package.
Although there no power enhancements in this package besides a sports exhaust system, handling characteristics of the Honda Fit can be improved thanks to MUGEN’s upgraded sports suspension and brakes. And to shave off a couple of pounds in weight, a new aluminum wheel, the MUGEN MD8 wheel, has been developed for the new Honda Fit which will be offered in addition to two other styles already available.
Other goodies in the package include items such as the semi-bucket “MS-Z” seats or the full-bucket seats like the “MS-R” seats. There is also new Hydrophilic LED mirrors and new gauges providing readings for oil temperature, water temperature, and oil pressure.
The MUGEN package definitely enhances the look of the vehicle but it would be really nice if the performance could be cranked up a little bit to spice things up.
