Kei cars are pretty popular in Japan and we wrote about the unique looking Nissan Dayz Roox a while back. In Japan, all the major car manufacturers make kei cars and the all-new Honda N-BOX SLASH is the latest one to hit the market. I don’t know how well kei cars would sell in North America but they are popular in Japan. Kei cars fall under a category of small vehicles in Japan which include microvans, tiny pickup trucks/kei trucks, and kei cars as seen here. Under the latest regulations, kei cars are limited to 63 horsepower and 660cc engine. The vehicle’s size is also limited to a maximum length of 11.2 ft, width of 4.9 ft, and a height of 6.6 ft.
The Honda N-Box Slash kei car is the fifth model from their N Series of vehicles. These vehicles look very similar to the boxy cars seen in North America like the Scion xB, Nissan Cube, and Kia Soul but on a much smaller scale. Kei cars don’t have much to offer in terms of power but they are popular due to their affordability and personalization options.
The latest Honda N-Box Slash offers a series of options for the exterior and interior of the vehicle including a new high-end sound system called ‘Sound Mapping System’ which generates extremely deep bass and high-quality sound.
They may look like toy cars for kids but there is something interesting about them that makes me want to keep looking at the vehicle. I think the Japanese should just put in a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine in these vehicles and start selling them in North America (if it was only that simple).
The Honda N-Box Slash is powered by a 660cc gasoline engine which is available in both a turbocharged variant and naturally aspirated version. Customers also have a choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It may not have much power but the fuel economy on it is pretty impressive at 60.7 mpg US (3.87L/100km).
Pricing for the Honda N-Box Slash starts are $11,515 US. After looking at the gallery below, it’s possible you may want to own this vehicle.
