Smartphones nowadays are one of the most useful gadgets ever created. Chatting, reading and writing emails, playing games and getting informed are only some of the many uses we give them. However, they have one great weakness: its battery life.
A few days ago, my dad was cursing because his phone was at 15% and he had unplugged it 5 hours ago. I myself had to change my iPhone because it wouldn’t last more than three, maybe four hours before I had to charge it again, and I was sick and tired of walking around with a portable battery. We remembered how old Nokias used to last several days, how those were golden days.
It seems like we weren’t the only ones, as the british company Intelligent Energy has created a battery that, tested on an iPhone 6, lasts around a week. They added a special hydrogen cell to the regular lithium-ion cells. This cell combines hydrogen and oxygen while releasing small quantities of water vapor and it is charged as a regular battery.
Now, they only need to find the investors to make this a commercial product and make it smaller, as they had to alter the iPhone 6 so that it would fit. If they get the money and can redesign it, it will be a landmark for technology all around the world. And my dad won’t curse his phone anymore.
