I think all of us have pretty much experienced being in a Taxi at some point in time. My most normal/boring experiences are probably in my home city of Vancouver while the most extreme, chaotic, and pant shitting experience were in the taxis of various cities in Pakistan. Seriously, those guys are crazy! Unfortunately , I have yet to experience a taxi where I can say it was a really nice experience in terms of the vehicle but perhaps that might change on my next trip to the big apple.
The Nissan NV200, Taxi of Tomorrow, is finally ready for production after two years of development and street trials. The taxi will be manufactured in Mexico and it promises to improve passenger experience with more interior space, additional safety, efficiency, and technology. Too bad lower fares aren’t one of its promises because I know that would be welcomed with open arms by New Yorkers.
The Nissan NV200 will feature sliding doors and a factory partition, the rear passenger area will have independent air conditioning and an “active carbon-lined headliner” which will help neutralize odors. In terms of safety, the vehicle will have front and rear passenger curtain airbags, as well as seat-mounted airbags for the front row.
Passengers will also have access to a USB connection for both audio purposes and also good for charging your cellphone. And to feel all fancy-like, rear passengers will also have a intercom system for communicating with the driver. The taxi also features exterior lights which alert people near by that the vehicle is stopped and its doors are open.
No word yet on how much the Nissan NV200 will cost but it sure will be nice to see these on the streets. I think the Ford Crown Victoria had an extremely good run, now it’s time to let the Japanese shine.
