Probably one of the hardest things about traveling is lugging around a suitcase, but unfortunately that’s not something we can really avoid, unless we’re prepared to go somewhere with no things. They’re even worse when you’re walking through a huge airport and have a long way to walk, in addition to carrying along the suitcase. Luckily, the universe heard our complaints and has gifted us with the innovators of the Olaf Scooter, a suitcase that can fold into a scooter and vice versa. No more long, tiring walks down corridors with no moving walkways and no more lugging your suitcase behind you or on your shoulder, either.
There are a couple different variations to the Olaf suitcases, but the one we’re going to talk about here is the Olaf Business—which is specifically made with carry on sizes in mind to fit in airplane overhead bins. It’s officially carry-on luggage certified, which is a great comfort for when you’re flying those small planes, with dimensions of 55cm x 34cm x 23cm. It can take 35L of stuff, which is pretty impressive for just one smallish carry-on.
It has up to 17 inches dedicated to laptop space with sturdy wheels on the front and the back, built to last and to handle some rough surfaces outside of the smooth floors of airports.
It can’t hold more than 264lbs, so if you’re a larger person unfortunately this item will not work so well for you. Together, the suitcase and scooter weigh just under 11lbs, but when you consider what you’re getting out of it, it’s a pretty good deal.
The one downside to the weight of it is the fact that some airlines have weight limits on carry-on bags, and this bag alone, with nothing in it, comes close. However, most US carriers don’t have these limits, so chances are you’ll probably be fine.
So how does it work? Imagine a scooter that you see kids using on the street, it’s much like that. With three wheels in total, two in the front one in the back, you propel yourself forward with kicks, but it’s a lot easier than walking with your suitcase. The scooter bit for your feet and the handle then fold into the suitcase for easy transportation when you’re not using it.
Each scooter/suitcase will set you back about $275, but you’re getting a good quality suitcase with the added benefit of a scooter. You’d probably pay that same price for a super lightweight, good suitcase alone, so the fact you get easy transportation out of it makes it seem less price gouging.
It’s a fascinating idea and we’re surprised no one’s thought of it before, but now that it’s here it’s a great way for you to make your business travel just a little bit simpler and easier.
