The Solar Impulse project is the work of a group of engineers who created an airplane powered entirely by the sun’s energy. The Solar Impulse 2 was recently launched, and in 2015, the team will attempt to circumnavigate the planet using the plane and solar energy only.
Of course, this will be a historic moment and anything historic, like the moon landing, means Omega watches is also involved. Omega is providing financial and technological support to the team and has created the Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 watch to commemorate the occasion.
The watch comes in a 45mm titanium case with a black ceramic bezel. The dial is black with white hour markers that are covered with SuperLuminova; the same material is applied to the minute and hour hands. The background on the dial is actually a screen for the digital display, which shows up to three different time zones (hours, minutes, and seconds), chronograph, countdown clock, and three alarms. The dial also displays Mission Elapsed Time (MET) and Phase Elapsed Time (PET).
The watch comes with an AR coated sapphire crystal on the front and is water resistant to 30 meters. The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 watches are powered by a chronograph quartz movement. Via: Omega
