There has been a lot of fanfare about the Apple Watch (or iWatch, as it was speculated) over the last few years. Late in 2014 Apple finally announced the watch and it should be arriving at Apple stores this year. But did you know there was another Apple watch, way back in the 1990’s? Yes, that’s a long time ago, a time when Clinton was president (and banging Miss Lewinsky) and people had funny haircuts.
Unlike the new Apple Watch, you couldn’t buy the original watch, it was offered as a gift for upgrading to Macintosh System 7.5, which would be the equivalent of an iOS.
You may be asking questions like, did the original iWatch have Bluetooth? Well, it was blue, and the word Bluetooth, at that time, probably meant you had a tooth that was blue. Another question you might have is, what types of Apps did it come with? It came with only one app, which was analog and performed the function of telling time with three rotating objects in a circular movement.
The original Apple watch came in a metal case with a blue bezel and rubber straps with “Mac OS” embossed on it. The dial is white with the old and very colorful Apple logo on it. The hour hand is a green triangle, the minute hand is a red Popsicle stick looking things, and the second hand is yellow and squiggly. The watch is powered by Japanese quartz movement and is covered with scratch resistant glass.
There’s a short video below, showing the watch, and a handful of hipsters seeing the watch for the first time. I’ll warn you, the video is very rage inducing, just looking at some of these nerds makes me want to punch them in the face… yes, I have a temper problem (and admitting it is the first step, and hopefully the last).
