Last year Porsche unveiled the Cayman GTS, a more powerful version of their very popular mid-engine sports car. Now the German car maker has released an even more powerful version of the car, called the Cayman GT4; bringing the car ever closer to Porsche’s 911 line of cars.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 is the result of a love triangle between the Cayman, 911 Carrera S, and the 911 GT3. The car is powered by a de-tuned version of the 3.8 liter flat-6 engine found on the Carrera S, in the GT4, the engine produces 385 horsepower (instead of 395). The only transmission offered is a 6-speed manual with dynamic gearbox mounts, helping the car reach the 60 mph mark in 4.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 183 mph. According to Porsche, the Cayman GT4 does a lap around the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 40 seconds, which is about the same time it took a 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 and is very close to that of the Lexus LFA supercar (7:38.50).
The Chassis consists mostly of parts borrowed from the GT3. The cars sits 30 mm lower and on some very nice looking wheels. The Cayman GT4 features a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a chin spoiler, a redesigned hood with a vent, a large fixed rear spoiler, and a diffuser with a pair of center mounted exhaust tips.
The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale in July. The car will have a starting price of $84,600 before destination charges in the United States and €85,779 in Germany.
