Finally, after months of still images and brief interviews with Ridley Scott, we get a real… actual… Prometheus trailer. Ridley used the word epic for this film during some of his interviews, and based on what I’ve seen in this short trailer, I don’t think he was exaggerating. The trailer is full of fast cuts, stunning landscapes, and more science fiction goodness than you can shake a xenomorph tail at.
I love most of Ridley Scott’s work in general, but what I really like about the trailer is the seemingly massive scale of the movie. There are shots of numerous cramped areas – much like we saw in Alien – but with the addition of many large outdoor areas, or at least indoor areas with extremely high ceilings. Combine that with some of the massive structures shown, such as the alien ship, and I get a feeling of the weight of ages factoring into the film. Think of, say… 2001: A Space Odyssey, or standing outside the Great Pyramids in Egypt. That kind of thing.
Prometheus Trailer
Now, unfortunately there is one problem – the wait. Prometheus isn’t expected to arrive in theaters until June 2012. It’s a long way away, but not unreasonable for a movie of this caliber. Principal photography is finished, and I imagine the team will spend the rest of the time making the film every bit as awesome as Ridley’s other movies.
I’ll continue to post Prometheus updates as they become available.
